Inclusive Concept Development
Inclusion begins at the earliest stages of your creative process. Inclusive Concept Development ensures that your script and/or ideas are shaped with input from the communities you are representing. To tell an authentic story, it is vital to engage with these communities from the start, gaining their insights and support to ensure a respectful and accurate portrayal. Consulting a wide range of voices within the community helps avoid a one-dimensional perspective—one person’s experience is not everyone’s story.
To connect with the right community, seek out reputable organisations, advocates, and established online groups where these communities gather. Open calls can also help you involve diverse voices. Authentic representation is built on meaningful engagement, and it is important to involve community members throughout your project’s development.
Obtaining letters of support from reputable organisations or advocates is essential to demonstrate this consultation. A strong letter should be on official letterhead, clearly outline the community's involvement in the project, and state why the group supports it. Signed by a senior leader or advocate, these letters affirm that your concept has been developed inclusively, with respect and credibility.
